Automatic monitor creation
Alvao can automatically create and update display monitor objects in the object tree based on computer scan data. This feature is available starting with version 26.3.
You can enable and configure this feature in Administration - Asset Management - Settings - Automatic monitor creation.
Monitor objects are created or updated only when new scan data is processed. Existing scan data from before the feature was enabled is not reprocessed.
Once a monitor is created, each subsequent scan updates the following monitor object properties:
- Computer (last scan) - the name of the computer to which the monitor was connected during the last scan
- Last scan date - the timestamp of the last computer scan
Existing monitor objects are not automatically moved within the object tree, even if they were connected to a different computer (that is, detected in scan data for another computer).
Monitor serial number
Scan data is primarily matched with existing monitor objects using the Serial number object property.
The serial number usually serves as a reliable unique identified.
If you encounter issues as placeholder serial numbers (for example, 0123456789), add them to the denylist using the Administration - Settings - Advanced - AutomaticMonitorCreation.SerialNumberDenylist setting.
Enter a comma-separated list of values, for example: 0123456789, 000000, no-serial-number.
Monitors with blacklisted serial numbers are skipped during scan processing.
The following serial number values are always skipped: 0, 1, Serial Number, null, value, Reserved, 16843009.
Personal and shared monitors
Laptops are sometimes connected to monitors that you may not want to track as company assets, such as personal monitors at a user's home or shared monitors at a customer's site.
To exclude such monitors from asset check, asset assignment, and print reports, add the Ownership object property to the monitor object template and set it to Personal for these monitors.
