System ArchitectureALVAO User Activity Monitoring consists of 5 components:
- Monitoring Agent (MON Agent, Agent) – a service running on the monitored computer and logging all activities of all users that are currently logged in. The records of these activities are periodically sent to MON WebService.
- Monitoring WebService (MON WebService) – a web-based service which stores data received from the Agents.
- Monitoring Server (MON Server) – a service running on the server. It processes the files saved by MON WebService and saves all information into the ALVAO database.
- Monitoring Portal (MON Portal) – a web-based application which displays the information about user activities stored in the database.
- Asset Management Collector (AM Collector, Collector) – a service which does not participate directly in data processing, but updates the Software Products Library. ALVAO Monitoring uses this library to match applications with active windows. AM Collector also sends information about unrecognized applications.
Communication
The MON Agent continuously monitors the activities of all users on the computer where it is running. This information is compressed and sent to MON WebService at regular intervals. Before sending data, the Web service will check if the computer from which the data originated already exists. If it does not exist, it will be created in the database.
The Web service will save the Agent data to a specified folder. The MON Server periodically scans this folder to process all files stored there. Once processed, the activity records become immediately available on the MON Portal.
