Machine identification
On this page you can set by which components the computers in the network will be uniquely identified during hw and sw detections.
Registry auto update is stopped if:
- there is any inconsistency found in the key components; or
- some key component already exists in the registry in another computer.
You can discover for example change of a computer or its component this way. See more in Computer identification.
Tip: If you are replacing the computer key components, write the corresponding operations also into the registry. This will help you avoid possible problems with future detections.
Options:
- Computer – Network name (always) – the computer is always identified by the network name. It can not be disabled for this option.
- Computer – BIOS serial number – enable if you want to detect also by the BIOS serial number.
Note: This attribute is usually detected only for brand computers (Dell, HP, ...), eventually for virtual computers.
- Hard drive – Serial number, Name, Capacity – enable if you want to detect also by the hard drive parameters.
The Serial number is the key attribute for hard drives. In case the serial number is not detected for the hard drive, the system monitors whether the Name and Size attributes in the detection correspond with the ones in register.
- Network card – MAC address – enable if you want to detect also by the network card MAC address.
Notification: Laptop computers can connect by more methods (LAN, WiFi, ...). Economical computers sometimes disable unused network cards which cannot be detected afterwards. For the system is therefore sufficient when the MAC address of at least one network card in the detection corresponds with the one in register.
- Motherboard – Serial number, Manufacturer, Type – enable if you want to detect also by the motherboard parameters.
The Serial number is the key attribute for motherboards. In case the serial number is not detected, the system monitors whether the Manufacturer and Type attributes in the detection correspond with the ones in register.
Note: The serial number id detected only for some of the motherboards – usually for brand computers (Dell, HP, ...).
- Monitor – serial number – enable if you want to detect also by the monitor serial number.
Notification: We recommend using the monitor serial number to identify computers only if each computer is permanently connected to its monitor and does not connect to other monitors. For laptops, this condition is not usually met.
