New License – License
The tab allows to fill in the indormation about the license being newly created, which will be recorded in the License Registry.
Options:
- License name – provide the full license name By default, the license name is equal to the product name. The license name has to be entered manually if you are working with the License packages.
- Language – provide the license language.
- Number of licenses – enter the number of licenses you own.
- License model – select the licensing method or CAL:
- per device – license items are assigned to computers.
- per user – license items are assigned to users. The license the covers all the computers of the user (i.e. the computers assigned in the objects tree under the user).
- per connection – the number of active connections is typically limited for server licenses.
- per processor – the server products are typically licensed per core.
- License mode – select the license mode from the menu or enter the custom one.
- Valid from – record a date from which the license becomes valid.
- Valid to – record a date when the license validity expires, if it is time-limited eventually.
- Upgrade/support to – record a date when the product support ends (and the upgrade is needed) eventually.
- License type – select the license type.
- Normal – regular (boxed) license.
- Unlimited volume license – a license for an unlimited number of installations, uses and users.
- Floating – the license use is protected with special software, dongle or access permissions.
- OEM – OEM license provided with the purchase of a new computer or device (component).
- CAL – CAL (client access license) type license or license for a product which has no installation on the computer. This license won't be reported as "excessive."
- Hardlock – enable this option if your license requires dongle protection.
- License package – this option specifies, whether you are using a standalone license, or a license that is a part of a software package. This option will be set based on the selection made in the New license – product window, i.e. it will be selected automatically if you select License package in this window.
- Assign automatically – enable this option if the system should automatically assign this license to and remove it from all computers in active records. This option cannot be enabled if CAL/Licensing is set to per user, or if the License type is an OEM license.
If this option is enabled:
- The system will assign this license each time when a product is installed that can be covered by this license and if the product is not already covered by a different license.
- If you uninstall a product (with the uninstallation detected automatically or marked manually in the system), the system will release this license automatically:
- If the item includes any data (such as serial number, asset number, cost center etc.), only the corresponding computer will be deleted from this item.
- The system can automatically release only those items that were previously assigned automatically. Items assigned manually cannot be removed automatically.
- Licenses can be assigned and moved manually (even those licenses that were previously assigned automatically).
If an item is assigned manually, the system will not remove it automatically. The item will be permanently assigned.
- The license will be automatically assigned based on the cost center priority:
- The cost center for the license and for the computer are identical (both of them can be blank).
- The license cost center is blank (license has been purchased for the entire organization and can be used in any computer cost center).
This implies that the system does not assign automatically licenses to computer with a different cost center (you can do this manually though).
- Licenses are assigned automatically:
- Immediately once the license has been saved with the option "Assign automatically" enabled.
- Immediately once the computer SW detection has been evaluated (AM Collector, storing detection results to the AM Console manually).
- Repeatedly using AM Collector. The system will search for all computers in the Asset Management to which the license can be assigned.
- [Settings...]
Allow multiple license assignment to a single object – enable this option if the license can be assigned to the same object several times.
Activation Key – provide your license activation key. If you provide the license activation key, all the newly created license items will get the activation key automatically according to the license instruction.
Warning: Please note that this value will be saved to the database in unencrypted form!
Inventory number – provide the inventory number under which this license will be recorded in the accounting.
Certificate – select the certificate from the documents registry eventually.
Request – provide the request number relating to the license (e.g. a purchase request relating to the purchased license) eventually.
Cost center – select the cost center relating to the purchased license eventually. If you leave this option blank, the license will be available to all cost centers.
