Monitoring Mode

The monitoring mode defines the extent of information that are monitored and recorded for individual computers.

The mode selection is only important if you are using ALVAO Monitoring plus the ALVAO HW/SW Usage Monitoring extending module at the same time. The monitoring mode defines which computers are using the ALVAO Monitoring license and which ones are using the ALVAO HW/SW Usage Monitoring module license. If you are using only one of them, the respective mode is selected automatically based on the activation key and you do not need to select it manually on your computers.

The following modes are available:

  • Utilization of HW/SW and users' activity – in addition to monitoring the utilization of HW/SW, user activities at the level of windows open on the screen, print tasks and computer login are monitored. This is the default monitoring mode for the ALVAO Monitoring module.
    In this mode the agent sends data after 60 minutes.
  • Utilization of HW/SW – only the usage of computers (i.e. the run time of computers) and software applications (i.e. the run time of applications) are monitored. This is the default mode for the ALVAO HW/SW Usage Monitoring module.
    The agent sends data after 24 hours.
  • Off – no activities are monitored on the computer.
    The agent does not send any data, it only sends queries about the mode setting every 2 hours.

The monitoring mode is stored in ALVAO Asset Management for each computer in the tree in the "Monitoring mode" property. The monitoring mode selection is only available for computers registered in ALVAO Asset Management. ALVAO Asset Management is required; otherwise the mode selection is not available.

Mode Settings

Adding the Monitoring mode property to computers in the Objects Tree

  1. Go to ALVAO Asset Management Console, open the Computer object template, add the system property Monitoring mode to the template and enter Utilization of HW/SW in the system property.
  2.  Use Objects – Unify objects to insert this property in all computers registered in the system.

Changing mode

  1. In ALVAO Asset Management Console, select an organizational part in the Objects Tree.
  2. Go to the Objects tab and select computers for which you want to change the monitoring mode.
  3. Select Edit from the context menu.
  4. Select the Monitoring mode property and then select the required mode.

You can change the monitoring mode for individual computers in ALVAO Asset Management Console directly on the Properties tab, or in ALVAO Admin – Manage – Monitoring – Computers – Edit.
