Symptoms

Updating the activation key of licences with more than 255 characters results in error 500 with the following error message: 'An error occurred while processing the page: The string or binary data in the ActivationKey column of the dbo.tblLicHistItem table was truncated.' However, the activation key is not truncated when the edit form is reopened.

Cause

The cause is a bug in ALVAO products.

Solution

Fix planned for release ALVAO 26.3 (2026-07-23)

Workaround

Use a licence activation key with a maximum length of 255 characters.

Steps to reproduce this behavior

Create a software licence and assign it to an object. Then change the activation key to a value of more than 255 characters.
