Link between licenses

The links defining relationships between individual licenses can be created between the licenses in ALVAO Asset Management.

"Links" tab

You can manage the links in the ALVAO Asset Management Console main window, in the Manage license window, on the Links tab. There are both direct and indirect (transitive) links.

Views

In default settings the "Links" tab displays the following views:

  • Direct – displays only the direct links, i.e. links with the start or end license directly selected from the tree.
  • Follows after – displays a list of the licenses which are followed by the selected license.
  • Precedes before – displays a list of the licenses which are preceded by the selected license.

Columns

Name Description
Path Path to the established object.
Object kind Kind of established object.
Object Name Name of established object.
Direct Yes – it is a direct link to the object selected from the tree.
No – it is an indirect link to the object selected from the tree (link over another object).
Link type A link type from the perspective of the object currently selected from the tree.
Modified Date and time when the last link edit was performed.
Modified by Person who performed the last link edit.
From object (path) Path to the object the link is defined onto. For direct links it is the selected object tree.
From object (type) The object type the link is defined onto.
From object (name) The object name the link is defined onto.
From object (link type) The link type from the perspective of the object on which the link is defined.

Between the individual objects can the following link types be defined:

Link type Description
Relates to – Relates to License A relates to license B.
Precedes before – Follows after License A precedes before license B. Example: The MS Office 2003 license precedes the MS Office 2010 license.

Direct and Indirect links

E.g. between the licenses A to E there are the following links:
A -> B -> C -> D -> E

If the license C is selected, the links B -> C and C -> D are direct, because they directly come out of or lead into the license C.

The links A -> C and C -> E are indirect, because the license A is linked to C indirectly via the license B. Similarly the license E is linked to C indirectly via the license D.

Adding a new link

  1. In the AM Console view the Edit license window for the license you want to add the link to.
  2. From the context menu on the Links tab select the Add command.

  5. Write the license name part and select the object from the drop-down box.
  6. After filling in the information click OK.

Editing the existing link

  1. On the Links tab in the Edit license select the link you want to edit and from the context menu select the Edit command.
