Security for properties

Security for properties is used to set up access authorizations for object properties. The security for properties is set up for individual property definitions independently of the object security.

Permissions

The system allows to set the following authorizations:

Permissions Description
Read The user can view the property and its values. The properties are shown e.g. in the Properties and Objects tabs or in the Lists of Objects window in AM Console, on the object page in ALVAO WebApp, etc.
Make changes The user can edit the values of properties. Note: If the object security is enabled, the user must also be authorized to Change the object.

This authorization can be specified for all object types or just for a single object type.

When a new property definition is created, the system automatically sets the authorizations for system groups in Asset Management as follows:

Group Read Make changes
Object property readers Yes
Object property administrators Yes Yes

If no authorizations are set for the property definition, the property can only be viewed and edited by members of the Asset Management Administrators group.

Note:
Asset Management Administrators can always view and edit all values of properties; their authorizations cannot be restricted.
Tip:
If you want that a property is shown to all users in the My Asset section of ALVAO WebApp, go to the property definition and set the authorization of the All system group to Read. (In this exceptional case, users registered in the Objects Tree but not listed under ALVAO Admin – Users are also considered to be members of the All group.)
