Functions

Sum

You can use the Sum function to summarize numerical values of a selected property in a set of objects. The set contains objects from the selected subtree of objects.

Calculation process:
This function checks all objects starting on the deepest level in all branches inside the selected subtree. Once it finds the first object with the respective property in the given branch, it will add the property value to the total sum. The function will then skip all parent objects for this object in this branch.

Recommendation on organizing objects:
Place all objects whose property you want to summarize on the same level in the tree and under the same parent.

System Architecture
Example:

You are summarizing the prices of all components under the selected computer set.

System Architecture

The total price will include:

  • Hard drive type 110
  • Motherboard 110
  • Monitor 1000

The result will be 1,220.

Note:
This function also calculates the total of non-numeric values and e.g. phone numbers where the result has no practical meaning. Non-numeric values will be converted to 0, and so they won't influence the sum of other values, but this is where the calculation ends for the given branch of the subtree. This means, that in such cases the function can return unwanted results.
The number format does not support separator for thousands. Use comma or period [,.] as a separator for decimals .
