Console Settings

config.ini file

The config.ini configuration file contains system settings shared among all Console users. Save the edited config.ini file in the Config subfolder from where it is loaded with higher priority than the config.ini file that is located in the main application folder. This will also prevent unwanted overwriting of the configuration file at the system upgrade. You can find a sample version of the config.ini file in the application folder.
The file contains the following options:

Variable Value
Database If the file path to the udl file (Data Link) is specified in this variable, the last open database defined with this file will open automatically each time you run the Console.
To create a udl file, create an empty text file in the Bin folder (New – Text Document in Windows Explorer) and rename this file e.g. to "hd.udl". Then double-click this file to open a window where you can set up the database connection.
Portraits If the value "1" is used, the Console will display requester and solver images. If you don't want to display user images, enter "0".
PortraitsPath Specify the absolute path to the folder containing user images. If this value is not specified, the folder specified in the database will be used. If no folder is specified in the database, the Bin/Portraits folder will be used.
Each image file must use a name based on the Windows user login name, e.g. "jsmith.jpg". All files must be in the JPG format. The recommended maximum image width is 80 points and height 100 points.
Tip:
We do not recommend setting the PortraitsPath item in the config.ini file. Instead, we recommend saving these settings in the database with Admin.exe – Manage – Service Desk – SettingsGeneral tab.

Local Console Settings

You can find more options for setting up the Console under Settings in the File menu in the Console. These settings are saved to the system registry of the user currently logged in and are thus individual.
The following further values can be saved in the registry in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ALC\Service Desk\Console path:

Variable Type Value
HdTicketTakeStrategy DWORD Specifies the strategy to select requests from the queue.
Value Description
0 Take requests starting with the oldest one
1 Alternate between the oldest and the latest requests
OpenActiveHdTicketList DWORD Specifies the conditions under which the window containing active requests will be opened when running the Console.
Value Description
0 Only open if new requests are available.
1 Always open
2 Never open

Saving / Loading Settings

All custom settings – sizes of windows, filter settings, tabs etc., can be saved to a file. This enables you to restore these settings from a file at any point in future. If you want to save and/or load a settings file, go to Settings and click the Save/Load settings button. Then select a file to save your settings to / load your settings from. Before you save / load your settings, we recommend closing all windows and proceed with saving / loading the settings.

For technical reasons, it is necessary to load and save settings with local administrator permissions.
