New License
This chapter describes how to register different license types.
If you want to create a new license, proceed as follows:
- Go to the License registry and select New License in the context menu.
- In the first step of the wizard, New License – Product, select the main product of the license.
Note: If the license covers multiple products, you can add more products later in the Substitute Products tab.
- In the next step of the wizard, New License – License, fill in the fields in the wizard window:
- Go to the next step, New License – License Items, where you can add computers/users to the list. You can also assign the license to computers/users later.
Note:
- If the product contains multiple activation keys (e.g. OEM licenses), enter them one by one in the individual license items in the Activation Key field.
- If an Activation Key is entered for a license, this value will already be pre-filled in the Activation Key field of the item when license items are created.
- If the Activation Key field is filled in manually (i.e. it is not pre-filled with the license activation key), a duplicity check is performed for all license items.
- In the New License – Documents and Media step, add an invoice for the purchase of the license.
"Per device" licenses
The license covers the installation of specified products on the computers to which it is assigned.
- Create a new license – see New License.
- Fill in the following fields in the New License – License step:
- Enter the number of purchased licenses (i.e. the number of devices/computers to which a license can be assigned) in the Quantity field.
- Select "per device" in the CAL/Licensing field.
"Per user" licenses
The license covers the installation of specified products on all devices assigned to specified users.
- Create a new license – see New License.
- Fill in the following fields in the New License – License step:
- Enter the number of purchased licenses (i.e. the number of users a license can be assigned to) in the Quantity field.
- Select "per user" in the CAL/Licensing field.
"Per core/processor" licenses
The license covers the installation of specified products on specified computers. Each computer can use the license for multiple cores/processors.
- Create a new license – see New License.
- Fill in the following fields in the New License – License step:
- Enter the number of purchased licenses (i.e. the number of cores or processors) in the Quantity field.
- Select "per core" or "per processor" in the CAL/Licensing field.
- Enable the Allow multiple license assignment to a single object option.
- In the New License – License Items steps, create items for each computer. The number of items must correspond to the number of cores/processors for which the license is used by the computer.
CAL type licenses "per user/device"
The computers using this license usually have no products installed that could be covered by the license.
- Create a new license – see New License.
- Fill in the following fields in the New License – License step:
- Enter the number of purchased licenses (i.e. the number of devices/users a license can be assigned to) in the Quantity field.
- Select "per device" or "per user" in the CAL/Licensing field.
- Select "CAL" in the License type field.
Note: Licenses of this type do not check whether or not the license has been assigned without reason.
License for ALVAO products
ALVAO Asset Management
- Create a device license for a specific version of ALVAO Asset Management.
Note: This product is a package that contains all of the Asset Management components.
- Fill in the Number field (number of computers).
- Alternatively, set the data in the Valid until field (if you have an "annual lease" license) and Upgrade/Support until (the date by which you can update your software products library).
- Keep the license type as normal.
- Fill in other required fields and complete the license creation – see new license.
- If you have older versions of Agents installed on your computers, modify the license and add the appropriate Agent versions on the Substitute products tab.
- Assign a license to all computers that have one of the Asset Management applications installed, such as Agent, Console, as well as to servers running Collector, etc.
ALVAO Service Desk
- Create a user license for a specific version of ALVAO Service Desk.
Note: This product is a package that contains all of the Service Desk components.
- Fill in the Number field
- Set the license type to CAL.
- In the Note field, note whether it is a requester license or solver license.
- Set the dates in the Valid until fields and possibly in the Upgrade/Support until field.
- Fill in other required fields and complete the license creation – see new license.
- Assign a license to users (solvers or users)
- Set server installations (MailboxReader, Web App, Admin) as Special installations.
Office 365 license
- Create a user license for the appropriate edition of Microsoft Office 365 products.
Note: MS Office 365 products in the library are packages that contain all the components that the license may cover (e.g. MS Office 2016, etc.)
- In the Number field, fill in how many users you have purchased the license for.
- Keep the license type as normal.
- Set the dates in the Valid until fields and possibly in the Upgrade/Support until field.
- Fill in other required fields and complete the license creation – see new license.
- Assign licenses to users.
- The license automatically covers installations of MS Office 365, 2016, 2019 etc.
Windows Server Datacenter Edition type licenses
This license covers the installation of a server OS. It also covers the installations of all Windows operating systems on all virtual machines running on this server.
- Create a device license for the Windows Server Datacenter Edition product (WSDE) and enter the specific number of purchased licenses in the Quantity field. Assign this license to physical servers.
- Create a new auxiliary license:
- In order to be able to easily pair the license with the server one, use the same name as for the server license, adding a comment that this is an auxiliary license for virtual machines.
- Set one of the Windows operating systems as the licensed product.
- The license type will be "Unlimited volume license".
- Do not set the date in the Valid until fields and possibly in the Upgrade/Support until field.
- Add the "related to" link to the license created in step 1.
- Enable the Assign automatically option and set the filter so that the license is automatically assigned and removed on virtual machines running on a particular server only (e.g. limit the filter to a path in the Objects Tree).
- Once you have finished creating the license, make any necessary edits and add all Windows operating systems (which may be installed on virtual machines) to the table in the Substitute Products tab.
The auxiliary license will then automatically cover all Windows OS installations on virtual machines running on the host server.
Note: For multiple WSDE licenses, you only need to create one auxiliary multi-license which can be linked to multiple WSDE licenses.
