Object templates

On this page, you can manage object templates which are building blocks for constructing the object tree on the Objects page. When a new object is inserted in the tree, the object is created by copying a particular object template.

Each object template consists of the following elements:

  1. Object type - coresponds to type of the real-world object the template represents, e.g., computer, monitor, printer, user, department, etc. With each object type, just one object icon is associated so all objects of the same type have the same icon displayed in the object tree.
  2. Set of object properties - Each object property contains a certain value describing the object. E.g., an object of type User may have properties like Personal number, Work position, etc. You can define available object property types on the Administration - Asset Management - Property definitions page. One object can have at most one property defined by one property definition, e.g., a user can't have two or more Work position properties.
  3. Object name - objects are automatically named by values of selected object properties. E.g., a Computer/server object is named by the value of it's Hostname property. The name can also be a combination of values of more properties, e.g., a Monitor object can be named by a combination of the Manufacturer and Model property values. To define from which properties the object name is constructed, use the Edit property - Order in object name field.

This page offers similar options as the Objects page.
