Move Object

You can easily move objects around the tree with your mouse using the drag & drop method or using the Windows clipboard (Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V). If the tree has a deeper structure, the drag & drop method or using the clipboard may become less convenient. In that case, follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the tree and right-click on the object that you want to move.
Note: You can also select multiple objects by clicking on them while holding Ctrl or Shift.
  2. Select the Move command from the menu.
  3. The Select target object window opens where you can select the target object to move the former object to. Then click OK.
  4. You can open the Date and Time window where you can enter the real date and time of moving the object if you are recording the fact that the object has been moved ex post.
  5. The object displays in its new location.
    Tip:
If you enable the Don't show this window next time and use current date and time option in the Date and Time window, the window will not open next time you delete an object. If you need to enable opening this window in future again, go to Tools – Settings, click on the General tab and disable the option Create history records including current date and time.
  6. After moving an object, you can print a handover protocol.

Moving Object in the WebApp

  1. Find the object you want to move using the WebApp search.
  2. On page with the object detail select the Move command.
  3. On page Move object select the object which the source object should be moved under.
  4. Confirm the form by clicking to OK.
  5. The page with the moved object detail will be displayed.
Notification:
You can't move objects to the Recycle bin or Discarded assets using the WebApp.

Return Last Moved Object

Follow the steps below if you want to return the previously moved object to its original position:

  1. Go to the main menu Edit – Undo last move (Ctrl+Z).
  2. The object will be moved back to its original position in the Objects Tree.
  3. Both moves are displayed in the history.
Tip:
The permissions in the Objects Tree are ignored in this Undo operation. You can therefore undo also such objects that were previously deleted (moved to the Recycle Bin) by mistake.
Notification:
Objects deleted permanently (deleted from the Recycle Bin) cannot be moved back.
Note:
Last move history properties:
  • History is only kept for the last move
  • History is only kept while the active Console window is open
  • History will be deleted if you:
    • delete an object permanently
    • switch to a different database
