New scan profile
Use this form to create a new scan profile.
Options:
-
Profile name - enter the name of the profile.
-
Default profile - enable if the profile is to be taken as the default for newly added computers.
-
Period of automatic scan planning (days) - specify the number of days after which to automatically perform discovery. A value of 0 means that scheduling will be disabled and scans will not be performed repeatedly.
-
Use the same scan method for hardware and software scan - select if you want to scan hardware and software in the same way.
-
Scan method - select the scan method you want to use to scan computers.
-
automatically - the system automatically chooses either the MS SCCM or Autonomous Agent method. If the ALVAO Endpoint Management Connectors module is available, the system first attempts to use the MS SCCM method. If it fails it automatically switches to the Autonomous Agent method. Otherwise the Autonomous Agent method is selected directly.
If both the Autonomous Agent and the MS SCCM are unavailable for a computer, the computer can still be scanned using the connectors contained in ALVAO Endpoint Management Connectors, ALVAO Asset Management Monitoring Connectors, and ALVAO SNMP Network Discovery modules. With the ALVAO Discovery Agent module, you can manually scan individual computers and upload the scan files to Alvao using the Objects - New object - Load scan command. These ways of scanning are not controlled by scan profiles but by the configuration of an individual connector.
In Alvao 25.2 and older versions, the Autonomous Agent method switches to the now retired without Agent method in case the Autonomous Agent hasn't contacted the Alvao Server for more that 7 days.
-
Autonomous Agent - computers are scanned using the ALVAO Discovery Agent module.
-
MS SCCM - computers are scanned using the Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager Connector.
-
manually - computers are not automatically scanned by the Autonomous Agent or the MS SCCM method. However, they can be scanned using the other connectors mentioned in the automatically method above.
Choose this method also for computers that are not connected to the network and for un-scannable computers.
-
without Agent - (retired since version 25.2) scanning of Windows computers using the RemoteAdmin service.
This scan method can only be used on computers running Windows 2000 and above. There is no need to install Agent on scanned computers.
The scan is performed using DCOM, WMI and remote registry access.
Administrator rights are required for the following services on the computers: WMI, remote registry, administrative access to hard drives (computer name).
In a standard Windows Network Domain environment, to meet this condition, all you need to do is enable the RemoteAdmin service in bulk on computers using Group Policy in the firewall.
-
over SSH - scanning Linux machines. This method is in the preview phase and its documentation is not yet publicly available.
-
-
Hardware
- Scan hardware - enable if you want to scan the computer hardware.
-
Software
- Scan software - enable if you want to scan the computer software.
-
Normal (registry, services, and selected files) - select if you are happy to scan SW by normal scan.
noteNormal scan scans data from the Windows system registry and data about files that are launched from the Start menu or the Desktop. This option is faster and in practice is usually fully satisfactory.
-
Complete (as Normal and also all files on local hard drives) - select if you want to scan SW with full scan.
- Include files - specify a mask for the folder and file names to be searched during scan. For example, if you only want to search for files with exe and dll extensions, enter the mask "*.exe;*.dll". By default, files with exe and com extensions are searched.
- Skip files - specify a mask for the folder and file names to be omitted in the scan. For example, to skip the System Volume Information folder, enter "*\System Volume Information\*". If the masks for including and omitting files conflict with each other, the omit mask takes precedence.
warningComplete scan collects information from the Windows system registry and information about all executable files on the computers hard drives, which can be time consuming.
-
- Scan software - enable if you want to scan the computer software.
