Setting Up New Numeric Series To Generate Property Values

  1. Select Utilities – Lists – Numeric series from the main menu. This will open the Numeric series window.

  2. Click on the New button.

  3. The New numeric series window opens with the numeric series settings.

  4. Provide a name for the new numeric series (e.g. "Computer names"), as well as a prefix and a suffix for the series (e.g. PC, 1, ALVAO).

  5. Select a property whose value will be generated using the new numeric series (e.g. "Name on the network").

    Note:

The list does not display properties with the "Selection only" option enabled. No automated code list can be generated for these properties

  6. Select an object kind (e.g. "Computer") and click the <<Add button next to the list. The object kind will be added to the list.

    Note:

If the list of object kinds is empty, the value will be generated for this property across all object kinds.

  7. If you need to distinguish between computer kinds, select the computer types (e.g. "desktop") and click the <<Add button next to the list. The computer kind will be added to the list.

    Note:

If the list of computer kind is empty, the value will be generated for this property across all computer types.

  8. Click OK to confirm your changes. If there is a collision between the new numeric series and an existing numeric series, a warning will be displayed and the new series cannot be saved.

    Note:

Numeric series defined for certain object kinds has a priority over series defined for all object kinds. These two series never collide. This rule is valid also for computer kinds.

Numeric series generate values for the selected object properties immediately after a new object has been created in the tree (commands "New object", "Copy object"). The generated property value can be later edited manually. Optionally, you can also check for duplicities in property definitions.
