Unifying Objects
The open system architecture allows you to create virtually any objects with virtually any properties. Theoretically, this means that objects of the same kind (e.g. Computers) can be described with different properties. The degree, to which the system architecture is open, may not always be an advantage in practice. This is why the system support the unification of objects of the same kind.
You can use the Unification function to unify sets of properties for objects of the same kind based on the selected object. The properties that are missing compared to the sample object will be added to all objects of the same kind. The properties that in excess compared to the sample object will be permanently removed from all objects of the same kind.
You can use this feature to unify icons too.
Warning: The unification of objects cannot be undone!
For example, if you want to unify all objects of the Computer kind in the database based on a sample object from the Object template, follow the steps below:
- Show hidden objects under View – Hidden objects in the main menu
- Select an object of the Computer kind in the Object templates
- Select Object – Unify objects in the main menu
- Click on OK in the Unification of Objects window.
