Custom Software Products Library
A software products library is a set of rules used by the system to analyze software detections and to recognize the products installed on your computers. The current library version is available for download from the Internet in the Software – Software products library – Load updated library menu.
Tip: If the system does not detect some applications and unrecognized records are displayed on the Software tab, select the unrecognized records and select Send SW for identification... from the context menu. A wizard will open where you can provide additional information regarding the unrecognized records. Once the wizard is completed, a new request will be created which will be sent by the Collector to our technicians. They will add the unrecognized products to the standard library. The updated library will then be available for download from the Internet in the Software – Software products library – Load updated library menu. Once the new library has been downloaded, the respective records will be recognized.
Tip: The Software tab in the Main Console Window can also display detected records from the system registry which have not been assigned to any product according to the software products library. If you can see such records on this tab, some products have been installed on your computers that cannot be recognized based on the software products library rules.
Add New Product
The library can be added user-defined products and product recognition rules. You can also ask us to add a new product to the standard software products library.
Add a New Custom Product
- Go to the Detection tab in the upper-right part of the Main Console Window and select a software detection which contains the data on programs that you wish to add to the library.
- Right-click on the selected detection, go to the context menu and select - Details.
- The Software Detection Details window opens and displays all information on files and registry entries from the detected machine.
- In the files list (in the upper or middle part of the window) or in the list of the registry entries (if the window is switched to the View – Registry mode), select a file or registry entry that you want to use to identify the product.
- Right-click on the item and select - Suggest key rule from the context menu.
- Either the New rule for recognition based on files window or the New rule for recognition based on system registry window opens, depending on the active viewing mode. Both windows contain a list of identification markers that are pre-set based on the selected item.
- Click on the Other tab.
- Click the ... button behind the Product line. The New Product window opens where you can enter the product name, version, publisher as well as other product information. Click OK to close the window.
- Click on OK in the rule definition window to close it.
- The rule will be evaluated and the product which you have currently added will appear in the bottom-left part of the screen.
Note: A single product can comprise several key rules. If the system finds at least one file or registry entry on the machine's hard drive that meets at least one key rule, the system will regard the respective product as found.
Create Cross-Out Rules
If a product contains more executable files or libraries, these files will be displayed in the list of unrecognized files in the upper part of the Software Detection Details window. If you wish to hide these files in the list, you can create a cross-out rule for them in the following way:
- Go to the list of products in the bottom-left part of the window and select the product to which these files belong.
- Then go to the list of unrecognized files and select one file that you wish to cross out, right-click on the file and select - Suggest cross-out rule from the context menu.
- The New rule for recognition based on files window opens with the pre-set recognition markers based on the selected file. You can edit any values as necessary. Then click OK to save the rule.
- All files that meet the recognition rule you have just created will be hidden from the list of unrecognized files.
- If one rule is not enough to hide all files, create multiple cross-out rules for all the remaining files of the product.
Warning: You cannot create, edit or delete rules for certified products from the Software Library.
Note: Detections are first evaluated based on key rules and only then based on the cross-out rules. Therefore, if a cross-out rule is in collision with a key rule, the key rule always has higher priority.
Note: Although cross-out rules are assigned to specific products, this assignment is for information only. Cross-out rules cannot influence which products will be detected on the computer by the system.
Request to Add a New Product to the Standard Library
- Select Software – Products (software) in the main menu.
- The Products (software) window opens. Click on the Add button.
- Provide detailed information about the product you wish to add to the standard library, such as publisher, name, version as well as other information. Confirm Add to standard software products library and click OK.
- The new product will be listed in the list of products and you can start using it immediately (create licenses etc.). At the same time, the request to add a new product will be prepared and sent by the Collector to our specialists who maintain the Software products library.
- Once the new product has been added to the library and the new library has been downloaded to the system, the system will automatically replace the user-defined product with the new product from the standard library.
Note: To enable sending your requests to add new products to the standard library, please make sure you are connected to the Internet, open the Collector, go to Settings – SW Library and select the option Send requests for changes in software products library over the Internet. All data will be sent anonymously, or you can provide an e-mail address. Providing your e-mail address may be convenient for your specialists who will be able to contact you regarding further information if necessary.
