Object Name

Object names can be entered manually or generated automatically based on the current values in one or more object properties. If the object contains at least one property which specifies the object name, the object name will be generated automatically and cannot be edited manually. In such cases, you will need to change the value of the corresponding property to change the object name.

Whether a property specifies the object name and which part of the object name it specifies can be set in the Property window. To open this window, go to the Properties tab, right-click on the corresponding property in the list of properties and select Edit from the context menu.

If the object name consists of multiple properties, the object name will be created by combining the property values into one string, i.e. the values of the individual properties will be inserted based on their order and separated with commas. If the value of a property specifying the object name is blank, this property will not be used for the object name (to avoid displaying an excessive comma).

Names of objects (people, computers and organizational structure) can be loaded also from the Active Directory. If you rename the object in AD, it will automatically rename also in the Asset Management.
