Object rules
On this page, you can manage object rules that keep your object tree accurate and organized. Object rules automatically move specific objects within the object tree to their intended location. Typically, they are used to automatically position device objects imported from external sources such as Microsoft Entra ID, Microsoft Intune, ALVAO Discovery Agent, and others. Object rules are part of the ALVAO Asset Management Autopilot module.
Incorrect object rules may cause objects to be moved unexpectedly within the object tree. It is highly recommended to test all rule changes in a test environment before deploying them to production.
Options:
- Command panel
- New rule - create a new rule.
- Run all rules - immediately execute all enabled rules. Use this command if you have made significant changes to rules and do not want to wait for the next scheduled rule execution.
- Log - view a log of object moves performed by object rules.
- Edit - edit the selected object rule.
- Move up / Move down - move the selected object rule one position up or down. Rules are processed in the specified order. If an object is moved by a rule, the subsequent rules are not applied. These commands decrease or increase the numeric value in the Order table column.
- Enable / Disable - enable or disable the selected rules. Enabled rules are evaluated and can move objects immediately when a new object is created, an existing object is moved, or an object property value changes. Enabled rules also run automatically regularly once a day during nighttime. Disabled rules are skipped.
- Delete - irreversibly delete selected object rules.
- Table - contains all object rules. You can customize it as needed.
- Selected object rule - after selecting a rule in the table, the panel appears on the right displaying information about the selected rule.
Only members of the Administrators, Asset Management administrators, and Configuration administrators can manage object rules.
Changes to object rule definitions are recorded in the Security change log.
