Getting Started with ALVAO Asset Management

This section describes the basic scenarios performed on the ALVAO sample database.

Downloading and Restoring the ALVAO Sample Database

Go to Downloading sample databases page and download the archive for your language. Unzip the downloaded 7z archive and restore the database on your SQL Server under the name "AlvaoSample."

Running the Console for the First Time

Run the Console from Start – ALVAO Asset Management – Console menu. When you run the Console for the first time, the Database Manager window will open. Click on the "Add more..." button in the lower part of the window. It displays a wizard where you select "Open existing database – Other" in the first step and click on the "Next" button. It displays a standard wizard for creating data connection, select "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server" or "SQL Server Native Client xx.x" as the provider. On the "Connection" tab, enter the server name, information for logging in to the server, and select the "AlvaoSample" database on the server. Click OK to complete the wizard.

The AlvaoSample database should now appear in the database list – select it and click on the Open button. Login to the database as the "admin" user. Leave the Password field blank.

Tip:

If you later create your own database, you can re-open the sample database anytime by the File – Database command. You can use a new database to experiment with the Console with up to 5 machines without providing the Activation Key.

Note:

You can work with multiple databases in the Console. However, please remember that only a single database can be open at a time. If you run the Console, the Login window may open first where you can log in to the previously used database. If you want to open a different database, click on the Cancel button in the Login window. The Database Manager window will open where you can select another database. You can also open a different database from the Console later in the File – Database menu.
