Virtual machines

Virtual machines (VMs) are tracked as objects of type Computer/virtual machine in Alvao. They have the Host computer property containing the name of the last scanned physical computer hosting the VM.

In the case that new VMs are automatically created as objects of another type than Computer/virtual machine, tune the device object type rules.

VMs on one physical computer​

- Computer/server: PPC1
    - Computer/virtual machine: VM1
    - Computer/virtual machine: VM2

VMs are placed in the inside of the host physical computer.

Server farms​

Example of a farm where VMs can potentially move automatically between FPCs according to the current load:

- Server farm: ServerFarm1
    - Folder: Physical computers
        - Computer/server: PPC1
        - Computer/server: PPC2
    - Folder: Virtual machines
        - Computer/virtual machine: VM1
        - Computer/virtual machine: VM2

Cloud-hosted VMs​

- Cloud subscription: Azure subscription 1
    - Computer/virtual machine: VM1
    - Computer/virtual machine: VM2
