Define and Edit Properties

Description

Icon

Click on the button with the icon in the Icons window and select an icon for this property.

Name

Enter a property name, e.g. "Size", "Capacity", "First Name", "Last Name" etc.

Order

Here you can enter values that can be used to sort the List of Properties (by the "Order" column)

Inherit property

Check this checkbox if you want this property to be inherited by sub-objects by default.

Unique

If you select this option, the values entered in this property will always be unique. The check for duplicities, i.e. whether a value is unique or not, is used e.g. in the Asset number property.

Global across all objects

This radio button influences the evaluation of the uniqueness of property values and the content of the code list for property values generated automatically. If this option is selected, the property will be global across all object kinds, i.e. for example Asset number. If you disable this option, the code list in the Property window will only contain values entered for objects of the same kind. For example, in the Name property different values will be offered for printers and different values for monitors.

The "Accountant" role can edit the property values

Users with the "Accountant" role will be entitled to edit the values of this property.

Delete value when copying object

This option is convenient if you want to copy properties without their values, e.g. the serial number etc. This option is enabled automatically, if you select the "Unique" option.

Code list of values
Use code list of a different property

Select this option, if you want users to be able to select values for this property from a (code) list. Using a list is suitable e.g. for the User property. This list then contains the names of individual users. The set of values is not necessarily limited to the items in the list; users can enter values not found in the list too.

Use the menu at the end of the line to select a property whose list of values you want to use. By default the value "this property" is used in this item. This means that the native list of values for this property will be used. If you select a different property, this property will share the list of values with the selected property.

Code list of values

The list contains default property values.

Add

If you want to add a new value to the code list, click on the Add button.

Edit

If you need to edit a value, click on its name in the code list and then click on the Edit button.

Delete

If you need to delete a value from the code list, click on its name in the code list and then click on the Delete button.

Selection only

If you select this radio button, the property value can be selected only from the generated code list and no other text can be entered in the value. This is convenient e.g. if you want to select users from the database etc.
