Hardware Detection vs. Tree

Description

List of differences

The list displays differences between the data from a detection and the data in the Objects tree.

Write changes to tree

ALVAO Asset Management will update the computer objects in the tree to match the detection data. Only those objects will be updated for which the Auto update feature is enabled.

Table 1. The objects in the tree are updated based on the following rules

Condition Actions
A device is being detected which matches none of the objects in the Objects tree of the computer A new object will be created in the computer tree based on the device that is being detected
The computer Objects tree contains an object that matches none of the devices that are being detected The object will be moved from the computer tree to the Recycle Bin
The computer Objects tree contains an object which matches at least one of the devices that are being detected, but some of the properties are different The object properties in the computer tree will be updated based on the device that is being detected
Find matching computer

If an entry exists in the list of differences:

  • The Register has not been updated based on the detection, because some detected components are already registered for a different computer. The computer may have been renamed on the network. Use "Find matching computer" and "Compare with register" on the "Detections" tab,

  • The Register has not been updated based on the hardware detection because some core components of the computer have changed. The computer may have been renamed on the network. Use "Find matching computer" and "Compare with register" on the "Detections" tab,

you can use this feature to find computers that are the correct parent objects of the detected components.

The identification components for computers can be set up in the Admin program (please refer to the Admin Manual for more information).

Note:

A mismatch between the computer identification and the detection may occur especially in the following cases:

  • some of the basic computer components are replaced and the replacement is not entered in the Asset Management

  • a computer in the network is renamed and the new name is not entered in the Asset Management

  • some computer identification information is not unique. In this case, the given component cannot be used for identification and must be removed from the list of identification data.

  • the motherboard serial number values "MB-1234567890" and "00000000" are ignored

Auto update
  • Enable – turns on the Auto update feature for the selected object in the list of changes.

  • Disable – turns off the Auto update feature for the selected object in the list of changes.
