Description
- List – The following detection components are already found in the Asset Register
-
This list contains identification components of a computer as they were detected and the corresponding objects found in the Asset Register.
If an object matching a component in the detection found in the Objects tree of another computer, the record contains a warning icon. This indicates that the component has been moved to another computer and that this change has not yet been registered.
- Details
Opens the Hardware detection vs. tree window that contains details on the differences between the detection and the computer selected in the list.
- Move detection to machine
-
In the list, select a record containing a computer to which you want to move the detection and click on this button.
Use this function especially when you rename a computer in your computer network and if you forget to register this action in the system. Since computers are detected based on the computer name in the network, the detection will match no computer in the Asset Register. Move the detection to the matching computer and rename the computers in the system so that their names match the real status. To rename a computer, right-click on the computer in the Objects tree and select Rename computer from the context menu.
- Settings
-
Opens a window where you can set up the machine identification. Check the components whose serial numbers will be used for the identification of computers. The following components are checked by default: hard drive (serial number), CPU (CPU ID), motherboard (BIOS serial number), network card (MAC address), computer (computer name on the network).
Set the range of the identification data to match your situation. For example, Dell computers have unique BIOS serial numbers. However, some no-name computers do not, which means that if this serial number is not unique, you cannot use it for unique machine identification in your computer network.
- Detection assigned to computer
The computer to which the detection is assigned.
- Details
Opens the Hardware detection vs. tree window that contains details on the differences between the detection and the computer assigned in the Asset Register.
Warning:
If you replace a computer component used for identification purposes, never forget to save this action to the Asset Register. This will help you avoid possible problems with future detections.
Tip:
The network card with a unique MAC address should be fully sufficient as a computer identification component.
